Council aim to keep Fairhaven Lake Visitor Centre open after RSPB confirmed exit

Fylde Council say the Visitor Centre at Fairhaven Lake will remain open after the RSBP formally gave notice they were moving out of the site.

Back in November, the bird and conservation charity said they were moving out of the popular beauty spot, where they have had a presence since 1997, due to financial pressures, and that they would leave the site in Lytham St Annes sometime in 2025.

Following the recent decision by the RSPB to withdraw from operating the Fairhaven Lake Visitor Centre and shop, they have now served their official six-month notice, meaning they will be leaving on or before July 31.

Cllr Jayne Nixon, Lead Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture, said: "We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the RSPB for their invaluable contribution to Fairhaven Lake over the years.

‘’Their dedication, expertise, and passion for nature conservation has played a key role in making the Visitor Centre a cherished place for residents and visitors alike. It has been a pleasure working alongside them, and we wish them well in their future endeavours."

Looking ahead, Fylde Council say they are committed to ensuring that services similar to those delivered by the RSPB continue and the Visitor Centre will remain open.

Cllr Nixon added: "We are currently exploring the best way to achieve this with staff moving into the building so there may be some internal alterations.

‘’Our goal is to build on the fantastic work that has been done and maintain Fairhaven Lake as a hub for wildlife appreciation, education, and community engagement.

"We appreciate your patience and support during this transition and will share further information in due course."
