Fylde Council to refurbish Kirkham Market Square public toilets

Fylde Council has announced a refurbishment project for the Kirkham Market Square public toilets, bringing much-needed updates to the facility.

With an approved budget of £35,000, the project will transform the dated facilities into a clean, modern, and easily maintained space.

The Kirkham toilets, situated adjacent to the newly regenerated Market Square on Church Street, are the only public toilets in the Fylde Borough that have not received investment since a review of toilet provision in the mid-2000s. This refurbishment will address the facility's tired appearance and deliver significant upgrades for residents, visitors, and local businesses.

The refurbishment will include the installation of stainless-steel anti-vandal WCs and wash hand basins, designed for durability and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel wall cladding will enhance the interior, ensuring a clean, modern appearance. Upgraded LED lighting will brighten the space, while a full programme of decoration and deep cleaning will refresh every corner of the facility.

Works are scheduled to start week commencing 10th February 2025 and will last onw month with the council’s Building Surveyor overseeing the refurbishment, ensuring that the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.

This refurbishment is part of the council’s commitment to maintaining quality amenities for the community. Once complete, the Kirkham toilets will not only support the area’s vibrant town centre but also meet the needs of locals and visitors alike with updated, hygienic, and accessible facilities at no cost to use.

Cllr Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer & Operational Services, said: "This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to improving facilities across the borough. With the regeneration of Kirkham Market Square, modernising the adjacent public toilets is a logical step to enhance the area’s appeal and provide a welcoming environment for everyone."
