Blackburn with Darwen’s spooky Saturday

Blackburn town centre will be hosting a series of Hallowe’en events on Saturday.

Free pumpkin picking and carving to the first of a new monthly pop-up street market and live music into the early evening are among the entertainments on offer in a ‘Saturday Spooktacular’.

A full rundown of things to see and do has been shared on the new Discover Blackburn website.

Blackburn Business Improvement District or BID’s pumpkin carving event is set to run throughout the day with its own pumpkin patch in The Mall.

There’ll be Halloween characters that you can grab a selfie with.

There are also more free activities and shows in Blackburn Market, the library and the museum.

Outside in King William Street, visitors can enjoy the first ‘Not Only a Street Market’ – a new monthly pop-up market.

It offers a blend of fashion, arts and culture with a mix of vintage, retro, art, music and street food.

As the night draws in, there’ll be live music in The Drummer’s Arms with Blackburn singer/songwriter Leah Eccles as part of the new ‘Blackburn Gigs’ taking over town centre venues with live music every weekend.

Cllr Quesir Mahmood, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s growth boss, said: “What a great way to end the half-term with this Saturday Spooktacular in Blackburn town centre.

“There’s so much going on too – from free fun for families to a night out with friends.

“We’re working with venues and partners to pull together events like this so people can come into town and make a real day of it.

“There’s lots going on right across the town every weekend – boosted with the brand-new Blackburn Gigs bringing live music in to town centre venues every weekend.”

Catherine Price, Blackburn BID Manager, said: “With the countdown to Christmas fast approaching and the arrival of the fabulous Museum of the Moon at the Cathedral next month, we’re excited to launch the Discover Blackburn website as a one-stop-shop to discover all Blackburn has to offer.

“First up we have half-term and Halloween and we can’t wait for the return of our free pumpkin carving event which is always extremely popular – one of our best events of the year.”
