Hyndburn Council community grants awarded

Five Hyndburn organisations have been given grants from the council’s Cabinet Action Fund.

The £20,000 cash pot, introduced earlier this year, aims to support community projects and enhance the quality of life for residents across the borough.

Oswaldtwistle District Women’s Institute: has been awarded £500 to help towards room hire for a craft club to enable the group to continue providing a creative and social outlet for its members.

Fairfield Boxing Club in Accrington has received £500 to provide free sessions aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour.

By offering these sessions, the club hopes to engage young people in positive activities, promoting discipline, respect, and physical fitness.

Oswaldtwistle’s St Andrews Primary School has been awarded £1,500 to cover transport costs for their Christmas play in Accrington Town Hall.

This grant ensures that all students can participate in the festive event, which is a highlight of the school year and an important opportunity for children to showcase their talents.

Great Harwood’s Masjid and Madrassa Islamia has been given £250 to support community activities and services.

The funding will help the organisation continue its work in providing educational and social support to the local community.

Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust has received £500 to assist with their community initiatives.

Hyndburn Council leader Cllr Munsif Dad said: “I am thrilled to see these grants being awarded to such deserving organisations.

“The Cabinet Action Fund is all about supporting local initiatives that make a real difference to our residents.

“We are committed to investing in our community and ensuring that these valuable projects receive the support they need.”

Mrs Tina Wilkinson, Headteacher of St Andrews Primary School, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this grant, which will ensure our students can enjoy their Christmas play and the opportunity to perform in such an amazing venue.

“This support from the council means a lot to our school community.

“It allows us to provide experiences for our students which are essential for their development.”

The £20,000 Cabinet Action Fund set up in July this year replaced the similar-sized Leader’s Budget set up by Cllr Dad’s Conservative predecessor Cllr Marlene Haworth in July 2023.

It aims to supporting local organisations which provide support for Hyndburn residents.
